Lipid layer thickness in contact lens wearers

Hello!
Contact lens wear can affect not only on Meibomian gland morphology but also on Meibomian gland function.
We have shown that both soft contact lens (SCL) and rigid gas-permeable lens (RGPL) wear worsened dry eye–related symptoms. Pre-corneal lipid layer thickness (LLT) in wearers was significantly thinner than LLT in non-lens warers. We also found that a reduced pre-corneal lipid layer thickness was associated with ocular dryness after SCL removal.
